Icelandic Knitting Festival Open for Registration

Iceland has gained a reputation as a bit of a knitting superpower in recent years—in no small part thanks to the ubiquitous lopapeysa sweaters—but also because of the country’s numerous, very woolly, sheep.

This June, the small North Iceland town of Blönduós will celebrate the second annual Icelandic Knitting Festival, which is loosely modeled on the long-running Fano festival in Denmark.

The Festival is organized and run by the Icelandic Textile Center—an exhibition and learning institution dedicated to all things Icelandic in the world of clothing and fabrics.

The Icelandic Knitting Festival 2017 consists of dozens of events; including lectures, demonstrations and workshops, as well as a gala dinner. Sessions will be run by Icelandic and overseas experts.

The event takes place June 10 and 11, pre-booking is a must.
