Icelandic Journalist of the Year Announced

The winners of the Icelandic Journalism Awards 2013 were announced on Saturday.

Stígur Helgason at daily Fréttablaðið won the award for Interview of the Year 2013 for his interview with a victim of sexual violence, Jón Bjarki Magnússon and Jóhann Páll Jóhannsson at DV won the Investigative Journalism Award for their coverage of asylum seekers in Iceland, the editors of current affairs program Kastljós won the prize for Coverage of the Year for their coverage of sexual offenses and their impacts, in particular relating to convicted sex offender Karl Vignir Þorsteinsson.

Bergljót Baldursdóttir at national broadcaster RÚV won the award for Journalist of the Year for her years of coverage of complex scientific research, in particular in the area of health.

The Photo of the Year awards were also presented at Gerðarsafn on Saturday. Iceland Review editor and photographer Páll Stefánsson won the award for Photo of the Year.
