Icelandic Handball Team Ready for Austria

The coach of the Icelandic men’s handball team Gudmundur Gudmundsson was satisfied with the friendly game against France yesterday, despite a ten-goal loss. The game ended 25-35. He says his team is now ready for the European Championship in Austria.

Key players did not participate in the game against France. “Our intention was to spread the pressure in this game and that’s what we did. We spared a large part of the players […] and gave those who haven’t played much until now a chance to play,” Gudmundsson told Fréttabladid.

France is the World and Olympic champion in handball.

Iceland played another friendly game against Spain on Saturday, which Iceland won by three goals, 30-27. “The victory […] was good so we are content,” Gudmundsson said.

Iceland’s first game in the championship is against Serbia tomorrow.
