Icelandic Golfer Hits it Big

Yesterday, Icelandic golfer Ólafía Þórunn Kristinsdóttir, from Reykjavík Golf Club, secured the right to compete at the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour next year, by finishing second at the LPGA Qualifying Tournament in Daytona Beach, Florida. The LPGA Tour is a series of golf tournaments for elite female golfers from around the world.

Ólafía finised the tournament’s five rounds at 12 under par, according to RÚV. She is the first Icelandic golfer to qualify for an LPGA Tour.

She told Golf.is in an interview, which you can watch here, that the feeling of qualifying was indescribable. She stated she remained calm the whole time, but that the day had been long.

Ólafía’s performance places her among the world’s best golfers.
