Icelandic Golfer Given Warm Welcome

The success of Ólafía Þórunn Kristinsdóttir, who became the first Icelandic golfer to qualify for the LPGA Tour last weekend, was celebrated by her club GR in Grafarvogur last night. Ólafía will compete among the world’s best golfers in the LPGA Tour in the US next year.

Mayor of Reykjavík Dagur B. Eggertsson was among those who spoke at yesterday’s reception, congratulating Ólafía on her historical achievement. She received ISK 1 million (USD 9,000, EUR 8,500) in sponsorship from GR to prepare for and compete at the tour, Vísir reports.

Ólafía gave a speech, thanking her family for their support and GR for helping her achieve as a golfer. She also thanked her coaches, sponsors and GSÍ, the national golfing union. Ólafía encouraged young golfers to set their goals high and work hard to reach them.
