Two thousand people at most attend the home games of the Icelandic premier league football club Stjarnan from Gardabaer. But after only two days, almost two million viewers had watched their fishy goal celebration on YouTube.
After Halldór Orri Björnsson of Stjarnan scored the winning goal in extra time against Reykjavík club Fylkir on Monday, he and his teammates celebrated in quite an original manner.
The story was reported by the Icelandic broadcast media and someone found the video clip of the goal significant enough to place it on YouTube.
Two million viewers seem to agree that the goal celebration is worth watching and the British tabloid Daily Mail called it “the finest goal celebration ever.”
See for yourselves.
