The Icelandic football documentary Inside a Volcano: The Rise of Icelandic Football won the Golden Whistle, or first prize, at the Kicking+Screening (K+S) Soccer Film Festival in New York City, reports mbl.is.
Started in 2009, The K+S festival is an annual event that is “dedicated to showcasing the best soccer films in the world to bring attention to this under-appreciated, emerging film genre,” according to the festival’s website. Inside a Volcano was this year’s opening night film.
K+S co-founder Rachel Markus writes that “Inside a Volcano celebrates what we love most about sport and film — the underdog seeking victory, a shared journey, a pursuit that has no boundaries … It is intimate, unflinching, funny, and clearly worthy of this year’s Golden Whistle.”
