Sigvaldi Stefánsson Kaldalóns was born in the Iceland’s West Fjords in 1881. He began his career in music by playing the accordion and piano in local concerts, at choir performances and in church, but earned his living as a doctor.

At 35, Kaldalóns published a small song text book with his friend Sigurdur Thórdarson of Laugarból, which quickly gained popularity.

Almost by accident Kaldalóns became one of Iceland’s most treasured composers, and still is.
