Icelandic Fish Leather Popular among Designers

By Iceland Review

The fish leather manufacturer Atlantic Leather in Saudárkrókur, northwest Iceland, has increased its production by 85 percent so far this year, compared to the same period in 2010, primarily due to a significant increase in demand for Icelandic sea leather abroad.

Unnur Fridriksdóttir is an Icelandic designer who uses fish leather in her products. Click here to read more about her work.

“Following this development we have increased the number of employees from 12 to 30,” María K. Magnúsdóttir, the company’s marketing and sales director, told Fréttabladid.

World famous fashion labels and designers are among Atlantic Leather’s most important customers, including Dior, Louis Vuitton and Hugo Boss, all of whom have used Icelandic fish leather for high fashion products.
