Heartstone, a feature film in development by Icelandic director Guðmundur Arnar Guðmundsson, was recently awarded the Warnier Posta Award at the Netherlands Production Platform.

The jury reasoned that the film was touching and the presentation of the project passionate: “A very personal story of coming out and coming of age set against the bleak background of rural Iceland. It’s a film which has the potential to be both touching and lighthearted—a film about being brave enough to be different in a small community, and about how friendship can transcend such differences. The jury was especially won over by the passion and enthusiasm of the project’s presentation.”

The platform aims to launch European film projects in development by encouraging networking and collaboration among relevant representatives in the film industry, as stated on the website of the Icelandic Film Center.

The film was one of just two projects in development that received an award. A selection was made from over 80 submissions and included 23 projects from 15 different countries.

Shooting is expected to begin next summer.
