Icelandic film Heidin (“The Heath”) by director Einar Thór Gunnlaugsson, which premiered in Iceland in March 2008, will be screened in the category “International Discoveries” at the Mannheim-Heidelberg Film Festival in early November.
Heidin is among 32 recent films that were chosen from 2,500 entries by the festival’s selection committee. The festival emphasizes artistic films that are also accessible. Heidin’s screening at the festival will be its premiere outside of Iceland.
The director and the main actors of Heidin will attend the festival and be available for Q&A sessions after the screening; the film will be screened six times in total during the festival in the two cities.
After the Mannheim-Heidelberg Film Festival, Heidin will travel to Tallinn, Estonia, where it will be screened during a local festival running from November 13 to December 7.
Gunnlaugsson did, however, have to reject an offer to include Heidin in the film festival in Braunschweig, Germany, November 4, due to his agreements with the organizers of the Mannheim-Heidelberg festival.
