Icelandic Film Producers Demand Injunction on Heroes

By Iceland Review

The two producers behind the Icelandic adventure film Astrópía (English title: Dorks and Damsels) are demanding an injunction on the American sci-fi drama series Heroes, accusing NBC of copyright violations.

“We are looking into the matter with a lawyer in Hollywood,” Ingvar Thórdarson, who produced Astrópía with Júlíus Kemp in 2007, told Fréttabladid.

Last night the 19th episodes of the third series of Heroes was aired in the US. Clips from the episode have recently been available on YouTube and one of the scenes is suspiciously similar to a scene from Astrópía.

According to Thórdarson, the plot of the following episodes of Heroes is nearly copy-paste from the storyline in Astrópía.

Thórdarson said this incident is very unfortunate for he and Kemp are working on having a Hollywood version of Astrópía made.

“We haven’t talked much about it because we’ve been negotiating with a fairly large Hollywood company,” Thórdarson said.

The first step is to have the airing of the latest series of Heroes stopped, Thórdarson explained, and then file a claim for compensation.
