Icelandic Film Awarded at Spanish Festival

Eyja (“Island”) by Icelandic director Dögg Mósesdóttir was presented with two SGAE Nova Autoria Awards at the closing ceremony of the 2008 Sitges – International Film Festival of Catalonia on Saturday last week.

According to a press release from the organizers of the festival, this is the first time that the same audiovisual production has won two SGAE Nova Autoria Awards.

The Societat General d’Autors i Editors (SGAE) Awards are granted to film school students from Catalonia; Mósesdóttir is a student of the Centre d’Estudis Cinematogràfics de Catalunya (CECC).

Eyja received the award for best direction-production and best original music, composed by Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson and Örn Eldjárn. Restaurando a Héctor written by Dea Pompa from the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) was awarded for best screenplay.
