A statement from Gunnar’s father and manager, Haraldur Dean Nelson, reads that Gunnar first noticed that there was something wrong with his knee last week and after an x-ray and medical examination it turned out that he needed surgery, ruv.is reports.
According to the statement, Gunnar expects to have recovered fully in the summer.
The fight with Pyle was planned after Gunnar beat Jorge Santiago in February, which was Gunnar’s 11th consecutive win after starting his career with a draw.
