Icelandic adventurer Vilborg Arna Gissurardóttir may not make it to the top of Everest as an indirect result of the recent deadly avalanche on the mountain.
The company Adventure Consultants has decided not to make any more trips up Mount Everest for the time being, as three of its employees were among the dead following Good Friday’s avalanche, which killed at least 13 and is the worst single loss of life to date on the world’s highest mountain.
Vísir.is reports that Vilborg Arna Gissurardóttir, who is on Mount Everest and helped with the search and rescue operation, planned to go to the summit with Adventure Consultants, but it is now unclear whether she will be able to get there.
Vilborg’s last big adventure was becoming the first Icelander to walk to the South Pole, a little over a year ago.
A statement from Adventure Consultants says it wants to give its Sherpa guides the opportunity to grieve and is therefore suspending its Everest services.
