Icelandic designer Harpa Jónsdóttir placed first in the competition 1000 Fabulous Knit Hats, recently held by Rockport Publishers in the US. The first prize is USD 500 (EUR 313) and the hat will also be included in a knitwear recipe book along with other entries.
“The most valuable prize is the publicity, of course,” Jónsdóttir told Fréttabladid. Rockport Publishers is a large publishing house with a subsidiary in the UK.
The book, which will also be called 1000 Fabulous Knit Hats, is scheduled to appear in autumn 2010 and will be distributed in many countries. “It’s a much bigger deal than I suspected when I decided to participate,” Jónsdóttir said.
Her hat is called “Flowers” and is made from wool embroidered with a flower pattern.
