“We have competed at international tournaments like this on two other occasions,” conductor Jón Stefánsson told Morgunbladid. “First in Denmark where they placed second, and then in Finland where the girls won two gold awards.”
The choir comprises of 24 young women, aged 17 to 26.
“On Friday they competed in a chamber choir tournament where they were the only women’s choir and earned the silver. On Saturday they entered the women’s choir competition and placed third,” Stefánsson said. On Sunday the choir performed the Icelandic National Anthem and then two 19th century compositions.
“We have felt incredibly welcome here. We live in the townspeople’s private homes. Everyone is so kind and happy to assist us with anything,” Stefánsson said.
