Icelandic Children’s Books Nominated for UKLA Award

Two Icelandic children’s books, The Story of the Blue Planet by Andri Snær Magnason and Oliver by Birgitta Sif Jónsdóttir have been nominated for the UK Literacy Association’s UKLA Book Award, as announced on Thursday.

UKLA is a charity aiming to improve literacy. Nominations for the book award are made by teachers at all school levels and this year, they came from Sussex, as stated in a press release from Icelandic book publisher Forlagið.

The Story of the Blue Planet is nominated in the age category 7-11 years and is published in the U.K. at Pushkin Press, while Oliver, nominated in the 3-6 years category, is published by Walker Books.

The winning books will be announced at a special ceremony at Sussex University on July 4, 2014.
