Icelandic Children’s Book Rewarded in Estonia

The Icelandic children’s book Engill í vesturbaenum (“An Angel in West Reykjavík”) by Kristín Steinsdóttir received an award by the Estonian IBBY division earlier this month.

The award is granted to a foreign children’s author, the book’s translator and publisher in Estonia to encourage the publishing of foreign children’s books in Estonian, a press release from Icelandic publishing house Forlagid explains.

The book is called Kodulinna ingel in Estonian, in the translation of Toomas Lapp. Estonia is the seventh country in which Engill í vesturbaenum is published. Three other Icelandic children’s books have appeared in Estonian.

In other book-related news, Andri Snaer Magnason’s The Story of the Blue Planet has been released in China and Dreamland by the same author has arrived on the Japanese market.

Magnason recently received an international award for his books.
