The Icelandic national team of chefs took home five gold medals, including for its hot and cold table, and one bronze from the award ceremony of Expogast 2014 – Culinary World Cup in Luxembourg, which took place yesterday.
The team, which had practiced for 18 months before the competition, has never won the gold for its cold table before, ruv.is reports.
Fifty-six national teams compete at the world cup and more than one team can win the gold in the same category. “The gold means that the team has earned more than 90 points of a possible 100,” explained Icelandic captain Hafliði Halldórsson.
Team member María Shramko won three gold medals and one bronze for Iceland in the individual competition in sugar sculptures.
Singapore earned the highest overall score and the title world culinary champion, followed by Sweden and the United States.
