The idea for the competition reportedly comes from the Salone del Gusto International Food Festival in Torino, Italy.

Local food producers Þorgrímur and Helga sell their products at the Slow Food Festival which is part of Salone del Gusto.

In the spirit of Slow Food, they decided to hold a competition in rolled sausage making in Iceland to draw attention to the old tradition of making rúllupylsa, as stated on the website of Dalabyggð municipality.

Director of the Slow Food Iceland Dominique Plédel Jónsson and meat product specialist Ómar B. Hauksson judged the entries.

Hafdís and Matthías won the main prize, which is in the category of lightly smoked rolled sausage meat and also took second prize in the category fruit-filled sausage.
