Icelandic Bridge Players Place Fourth

The Icelandic team of bridge players placed fourth in this year’s European Championship, which ended yesterday. The Icelandic team won its last game against Russia 19-11 and earned 289 points during the tournament.

Italy became the European Champion with 314 points, Poland was the runner-up with 308 points and Israel placed third with 304.5 points, Fréttabladid reports.

The Icelandic team will play at the Bridge World Championship in the Netherlands in the autumn of 2011.

Iceland has once before qualified for the World Championship, in 1991 in Yokohama, Japan, when Iceland went all the way and became World Champion in bridge.

Bridge is one of the world’s most popular partnership card games.
