Icelandic bomb squad to Lebanon

Foreign Minister Valgerdur Sverrisdóttir has decided to send an Icelandic bomb disposal squad to Lebanon to clear the country of mines, as she revealed in parliament yesterday.

According to Morgunbladid, the bomb disposal experts will travel to Lebanon early next year on behalf of the Icelandic Crisis Response Unit to clear a certain territory in the southern part of the country.

The Icelandic bomb experts will work alongside a Swedish emergency relief squad and be under the protection of the UN. They will not carry any weapons.

It is planned to send two teams of three to Lebanon; two experts from the Icelandic Coast Guard and one paramedic. Each team will spend six weeks in Lebanon and stay in Tyrus.
