Icelandic author nominated for the Frank O’Connor Award

Ólafur Jóhann Ólafsson’s book Aldingardurinn (“The Orchard”), published in 2006, has been nominated for the Frank O’Connor Award. The book received the Icelandic Literary Award last year.

The Frank O’Connor Award is granted annually to the best short story collection published in English. This year 34 books from 11 different countries are nominated. This is the first time a book by an Icelandic author has been nominated for the award, Fréttabladid reports.

Ólafsson said he does not expect to win, because it is like “forecasting the weather next week,” but that it is “always good to get a pat on the back.”
