Aníta won Iceland’s first gold medal at the IAAF World Youth Championships in Donetsk, Ukraine, this summer, before further success in the under-20 age group in Rieti, Italy.
These achievements make her the first person to win gold medals at both the World Youth Championships in Athletics and the European Athletics Championships.
The other winners, Bohdan Bondarenko and Zuzana Hejnová, were crowned European Athletes of the Year, while Emir Bekrić, a Serbian hurdler, won the Rising Star Award for men, as reported by athleticsweekly.com.
