Icelandic Athlete Breaks Record

Icelandic runner Aníta Hinriksdóttir set a new record yesterday when she won the 800 meters at the World Youth Championships in Donetsk, Ukraine, slicing half a second off the previous record.

Aníta finished the race in 2:01:13, around two seconds ahead of the next competitor.

Aníta, who is 17 years old, is the first Icelandic world champion in a youth track and field event, Morgunblaðið reports.

The young star now heads to Italy for the European Athletics Junior Championships.
