Icelandic artist Guðjón Ketilsson opened his exhibition “Extension of the Head” in the Luise Ross Gallery in New York this week. His exhibition is scheduled to run until May 5.

Guðjón graduated from the Icelandic Institute of Visual Art and Industrial Art in 1978 and continued his education in the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Canada from where he graduated in 1980.
He specializes in drawings and sculptures, and his work foregrounds the human body, its presence and absence.
He explores and works with the mundane connection we have with our body, ranging from the clothes we wear, how we style our hair and the shoes we wear, all of which that change and adjust to the size, shape, temperature and movement of the body.
Guðjón has also worked with body extensions, such as tools and the history of tools as a document of the human condition.
He was the recipient of the DV Cultural Award for Visual Art in 2000 and the Einar Jónsson Museum Award in 2001, smugan.is reports.
Guðjón has held dozens of private exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions in Iceland, Scandinavia, Holland, Spain, the US and Australia.
His works are the property of Iceland’s most prestigious museums as well as in open and private museum exhibitions overseas. He has participated in international workshops and has been selected to create works of public art on numerous occasions.
