Icelandic Artist Given Honorary Medal in France

Icelandic visual artist Erró will be decorated with France’s highest medal of honor, Ordu Légion d’honneur, in the coming autumn, which the artist receives for his 52 years of contribution to the French artistic and cultural life.

A painting by Erró, one of those on display during the current exhibition “Dolls” at the Reykjavík Art Museum.

Five individuals are chosen to receive the medal every year, two of whom have made military contributions and three for a special accomplishment or contribution to society, ruv.is reports.

Among other individuals who have been honored this way are actress Isabelle Adjani, author Calixthe Belaya, film director Emir Kusturica and philosopher Jacques Bouveresse.

Erró is expected to come to Iceland in September to attend the opening of one of his largest exhibitions of collages in the country. The exhibition will open at the Erró Museum at the Reykjavík Art Museum, Hafnarhús.
