Icelandic Actress Named European Shooting Star

Young Icelandic actress Hera Hilmarsdóttir, who has received much critical acclaim for her role as a single mother in drama Life in a Fishbowl (Vonarstræti; 2014) by director Baldvin Z, has been included in a group of ten young European Shooting Stars, to be presented at the Berlin International Film Festival, February 5-15, 2015.

The announcement was made yesterday. “Hera was an easy choice to make, showing herself as adept and expressive when performing in English as her native Icelandic and playing historical characters just as effortlessly as their modern-day counterparts. Despite those timeless, angelic looks, however, Hera’s range is deceptive—there’s definitely a fire there,” the jury commented.

The ten young actors and actresses will follow in the footsteps of previous winners, many of whom are now internationally acclaimed in their field, such as Daniel Craig (UK, 2000) and Daniel Brühl (Germany, 2003).

The other actors who received the honor this year are Joachim Fjelstrup (Denmark), Jannis Niewöhner (Germany), Emmi Parviainen (Finland), Moe Dunford (Ireland), Aistė Diržiūtė (Lithuania), Abbey Hoes (The Netherlands), Natalia de Molina (Spain), Sven Schelker (Switzerland) and Maisie Williams (UK).
