Icelandic Actor Stars in Prince of Persia

By Iceland Review

Icelandic actor Gísli Örn Gardarsson attended the premiere of the movie Prince of Persia: Sands of Time by director Mike Newell, in which he plays a large role, in London on Sunday evening. It was one of the largest movie premieres in Britain’s history; the ceremony was broadcast live in six countries via satellite.

Gardarsson plays the Vizier, the leader of a gang of assassins, who tries his utmost to kill Prince Dastan, the film’s protagonist, who is portrayed by Jake Gyllenhaal.

According to Fréttabladid, Gardarsson’s role is one of the biggest in the history of Icelandic acting on an international stage.

The movie received mixed reviews from the critics. Variety said Prince of Persia is unlikely to become as popular as other movies produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, as it mainly appeals to young boys.

However, Hollywood Reporter said the movie is entertaining, adventurous and exciting but is sorely lacking some epical elements in order to blow the audience away.

Prince of Persia premieres in Los Angeles on May 17 and in Iceland on May 19.
