Icelandic “Law & Order” in the Pipeline

A new Icelandic television show about the daily life of lawyers and their work called Réttur (“Court”) is in the pipeline. The show’s creator is Sigurjón Kjartansson, a well-known Icelandic comedian, writer and producer.

Kristinn Thórdarson and Margrét Örnólfsdóttir are assisting Kjartansson with writing the script, Fréttabladid reports.

For the past few weeks the team of writers have attended court cases in the District Court and met with advocate to the Supreme Court Brynjar Níelsson.

Níelsson celebrates the creation of the shows and said the time was ripe to portray Icelandic lawyers on television. “We are not as boring as some might think.”

The court drama will be the latest in a series of new Icelandic television shows, which have been in short supply in recent years.

Last year private television station Stöd 2 aired the comedy series Naeturvaktin and the crime series Pressa and national broadcaster RÚV aired a four-episode thriller Mannaveidar earlier this year.
