Sparrows, Rúnar Rúnarsson’s film, received the top Golden Seashell award tonight at the 63rd San Sebastian International Film Festival in Spain, according to variety.com
Sparrows is Rúnar’s second film, the first being Volcano which competed in Cannes in 2011. Sparrows is a coming-of-age story set in the majestic scenery of Iceland’s West Fjords.
The movie is about a sixteen-year-old boy from Reykjavík, who moves to the West Fjords to live with his father. Rúnar not only directed the movie, but also wrote the script. The main roles are played by Atli Óskar Fjalarsson, Ingvar E. Sigurðsson, Rakel Björk Björnsdóttir and Rade Serbedzija.
The film will premiere at the Reykjavík International Film Festival (RIFF) Friday, October 2, at 6 pm, at Háskólabíó cinema.
The San Sebastian International Film Festival is among the so-called category A film festivals, enjoying great respect worldwide.
