Icelanders Win Reykjavík Marathon

Björn Margeirsson was the first runner to cross the finish line of the full marathon in the Reykjavík Marathon on Saturday and became the first Icelandic man to win the race since 1984. An Icelander, Rannveig Oddsdóttir, also won the race in the women’s category, Fréttabladid reports.

The participation in the Reykjavík Marathon on Saturday was good; almost 11,000 people registered for one of the four runs: a full marathon, half marathon, ten or three kilometers. A participation record was set in the 10-kilometer race with 3,700 runners, Morgunbladid reports.

Runners collected more than ISK 29 million (USD 241,000, EUR 189,000) for charities through the website hlaupastyrkur.is and people can continue to make contributions until the end of the day.
