On Sunday ten Icelandic citizens wanted to leave Beirut on a bus arranged by the Norwegian embassy. One family of four was admitted on the bus but a family of four with a small child and three air mechanics were left behind. Foreign minister Valgerdur Sverrisdóttir said that the incident was regrettable but this was probably some misunderstanding on behalf of the Norwegians. The Icelandic government had taken part in sending a large airplane to Syria to pick up 482 individuals with Nordic citizenship. Mbl.is reports that Már Thórarinsson, one of the Icelandic mechanics, said that the only thing to do was to try to be optimistic. At the moment they know of no organized effort to get them out.
