Icelanders Nominated for Grammies

Musician Björk Guðmundsdóttir, composer Jóhann Jóhannsson, and the band Of Monsters and Men have all been nominated for a Grammy award, according to RÚV.

Björk is nominated for her album Vulnicura, released earlier this year, Jóhann for his music in the film Theory of Everything, and Of Monsters and Men for the deluxe edition of their latest album, Beneath the Skin.

Björk is nominated in the category Best Alternative Music Album. This is the 14th time she is nominated for a Grammy, although she has never won one. Vulnicura is one of Björk’s most personal albums, mainly on her breakup with artist Matthew Barney. She canceled her appearance at Iceland Airwaves music festival this year because she said the album had taken a toll on her. Vulnicura received very positive reviews among critics.

Jóhann Jóhannsson received the Golden Globe for the music to Theory of Everything and was nominated for an Oscar, as well as a BAFTA.
