Every Icelander visited the theater more than once in 2014, according to the latest numbers from Statistics Iceland. A total of 375,000 visits to theater plays and the opera were registered last year, kjarninn.is reports.
Iceland’s five professional theaters put on 1,047 shows last year. By far the most popular was Mary Poppins at Reykjavík City Theatre with more than 40,000 people enjoying the show last year.
A total of 65 different plays were shown last year, 32 written by Icelandic playwrights, 21 by foreign playwrights and the remaining 12 a cooperation between Icelandic and international playwrights.
