Travel agency Heimsferðir reports a 22 percent increase in trip sales over last year. According to CEO Tómas J. Gestsson, the increase is likely a result of poor weather in Iceland’s capital this summer as well as an improvement in people’s finances.

“July has often been quiet because many Icelanders want to stay home, at the best time of year, but we’ve been really busy,” Tómas told Morgunblaðið.

“There was a tremendous drop in sales after the crash of 2008-2009, a roughly 60 percent drop in summer sales,” he said, explaining that sales figures have now returned to those in 2005-2006.

Sales manager at Ferðaskrifstofa Íslands, Steinunn Tryggvadóttir, reports a 12 percent year-over-year increase in summer sales.
