Icelanders Line up to Wed on Lucky Day

Tomorrow, 07.09.13, is set to be the biggest wedding day of the year in Iceland. The numbers 7, 9 and 13 are considered lucky in Iceland and when you say them out loud after each other it means ‘don’t jinx it’ in the same fashion as touching wood.

Hjálmar Jónsson, priest at the Reykjavík Cathedral, told Morgunblaðið that he is fully booked for tomorrow. “I’ll be wedding four couples in three churches on Saturday,” he said.

“The day is going to be huge. I had to turn down some requests because people want to get married at the same time and I am completely booked with four weddings. I can’t have that conveyor belt feeling,” he added.
