One third of all Icelanders, 99,963 individuals, are currently students according to data in Statistics Iceland’s latest publication of Hagtídindi. New data on registered students shows that, during the 2005-2006 school year, the total number of students in Iceland at all school levels will surpass 100 thousand.
According to Statistics Iceland, the number of university students (17,107 ) has almost doubled since 1998 while the number of students at the upper secondary level (25,093) has increased by 24.6% .
There are currently 42,200 students registered in schools at the upper secondary and university level of education with women registered students outnumbering men 57.2% vs. 42.8%.
There are currently 2,175 Icelandic students studying abroad.
