Icelanders among European Handball Champions

Icelandic handball players Ásgeir Örn Hallgrímsson and Róbert Gunnarsson won the French Handball Cub over the weekend when their team Paris SG won against Chambery 31:27 in the final in Paris.

Meanwhile, Icelander Þórir Ólafsson and his team Kielce were crowned Polish champions for the third year in a row when they beat Wisla Plock in the final game of the playoffs, 34:25.

In other handball news, Guðmundur Þórður Guðmundsson was named handball coach of the year in Germany. His team Rhein-Neckar Löven placed second in the German league after losing on goal difference to Kiel, which is coached by another Icelander, Alfreð Gíslason. It was the third title win in a row for Kiel and the 19th title win overall.

Birna Berg Haraldsdóttir became Swedish champion in handball when her team IK Sävehof won Skuru in the female final, 38:20.
