Icelanders Allowed to be Called Eivör, not Eilithya

The notorious Icelandic naming committee has given the girl’s name Eivör the green light, meaning that fans of the Faroese songstress Eivør Pálsdóttir can now name their daughters in tribute.

The committee also confirmed the names Júlínu, Antóníus Tíbor and Úlfdal, but did not allow the girl’s name Eilithya, RÚV reports.

The human naming committee’s report says that no woman currently bears the name Eilithya and that it also cannot be considered in line with the grammatical rules of the Icelandic language, “where a is not written after y and there are no examples in general Icelandic written language of h coming after t in non-compound words.”
