Icelander Ísold Ugga has won best director at the Sundance Film Festival for her film And Breathe Normally. RÚV reported first. The award was granted in the international film category for “dramatic” genre. The film was also nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the festival but the award ultimately went to the Turkish film Butterflies.
And Breathe Normally has been well received by critics, and likened to the films of British director Ken Loach. The film tells the story of an asylum-seeker from Guinea-Bissau and a struggling Icelandic mother whose lives intersect.
