Icelandic citizen Brynjar Mettinisson has been released from prison in Thailand after having been in custody since May 2011.
Brynjar had been accused of drug offenses but was found innocent in August. Despite having been acquitted in August, Brynjar had to remain in prison while the prosecution decided whether to appeal.
Ruv.is reports that Brynjar was met by his mother at the airport in Denmark and is now on his way to visit his family, who live in Sweden.
Brynjar’s sister Eva thanked everyone for their support and assistance, in particular the Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the consuls in Thailand and the Icelandic ambassador to China, mbl.is reports.
