Icelander Released from Prison in Turkey, Travel Ban in Force

Davíð Örn Bjarnason, a 28-year-old Icelandic citizen and father of three, who was arrested at the airport in Antalya, Turkey on Friday on suspicion of attempted smuggling of antiquities, has been released from prison but a travel ban is in force, ruv.is reports.

As reported, Davíð and his fiancée Þóra Birgisdóttir bought a piece of marble at a market. After the stone was found in their luggage during security control they were taken to the airport’s police station.

The case has garnered significant attention in Sweden, where the couple live. Þóra was allowed to leave the country to be with the couple’s children.
