Icelander Nominated for UK Film Award

Actor Guðmundur Ingi Þorvaldsson has been nominated for the National Film Awards in the UK for his role in the film Chasing Robert Parker. Guðmundur expressed his surprise in an interview with RÚV after receiving the news. “This film has only been screened in Iceland, premiered here at RIFF last fall and has not been shown elsewhere yet. Therefore, we’re in seventh heaven and also feeling a little lost.”

He hopes the nomination will open doors to himself and the director, Daniel Florencio, “because he surely deserves it.”

This is an independent movie, Guðmundur explained, about a man of an unknown origin. He is a paparazzi at a low point in his life, spending time outside a club, trying to catch photos of famous people. He manages to get a photo of a famous actor, and the film is about their interactions and their lives.

Among those nominated as Best Actor are Daniel Craig for Spectre, Colin Firth for Kingsman – The Secret Service, Colin Farrel for Lobster, and Tom Hardy for Legend.

Grímur Hákonarson’s film Rams (Hrútar) is nominated as Best Foreign Language Film.
