Icelander Elected to European Court of Human Rights

Róbert Ragnar Spanó, professor and dean of the faculty of law at the University of Iceland, was recently elected judge to the European Court of Human Rights at a meeting of the Council of Europe.

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) elects judges from a list of three candidates nominated by each state which has ratified the European Convention on Human Rights, reports.

Róbert will begin his nine-year term of office on November 1.
