Icelandair Sees Overall Reduction in Passengers

Icelandair transported 1.3 million passengers last year, which is a nine percent reduction from 2008. The number of Icelandic passengers traveling abroad decreased significantly, but the number of foreign travelers flying to Iceland increased.

Foreign travelers are now 40 percent of all of Icelandair’s passengers, which is a record high. Their number increased by nine percent between years, Morgunbladid reports.

However, the number of Icelanders traveling to foreign destinations was 22 percent of all of Icelandair’s passengers in 2009, down from 31 percent the year before.

The percentage of Icelandair’s passengers making a stopover at Keflavík International Airport while traveling between continents was 29 percent, the same as in 2008.
