Since last week all passengers of Icelandair traveling to Iceland from Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm and Helsinki have been able to check-in online. This initiative is the first step towards offering online check-in for all Icelandair destinations.
By taking advantage of this offer, people can skip the lines at the check-in desk at air terminals and choose their seat onboard the plane. They can also choose to sit next to their traveling companions without the entire group having to check-in at the same time.
Passengers who only have hand luggage can go straight to the security gates, while those who have other luggage can take their bags to a special kiosk in the departures hall where machines read a barcode on the boarding pass. They then receive a receipt for the luggage and deliver the bags to an employee of the online check-in service.
Online check-in must be completed within 22 hours of the scheduled departure. Icelandair expects this mode of check-in to increase rapidly in popularity.
