Prime Minister of Iceland Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson stated at a press conference in Oslo yesterday morning that the Icelandic government has repeatedly asked for information from U.S. authorities as to whether spying or phone tapping has taken place on their behalf in Iceland but is yet to receive a reply.

Sigmundur added that the government is discontent with the lack of response and is pressing for information, ruv.is reports.
Sigmundur was in Oslo to attend an annual summit of Nordic prime ministers. At the meeting increased collaboration between the Nordic countries was discussed, such as on Arctic affairs, “to secure the nations’ joint interests,” he explained.
Former Minister of the Interior Ögmundur Jónasson recently discussed the potential tapping of phones of Icelandic politicians by the U.S. authorities on his blog, demanding answers on the issue.
