Iceland was voted ‘Best European Country’ in the Guardian, Observer and guardian.co.uk Readers’ Travel Awards 2012 last week.

Austria took second place followed by Germany, Turkey and Greece.
According to guardian.co.uk, footage of the 2010 Eyjafjallajökull eruption, of “a landscape evolving and forming before our very eyes” was one reason that attracted visitors to Iceland.
